Overview

This article aims to guide you through modifying the log rotation schedule via the Plesk service plan on your VPS. Logs are an important part of hosting websites, they allow the quick diagnosing of website issues and code related problems on your websites. We recommend keeping at least 14 days worth and recommend 28 days.

Instructions

  1. Log into your Plesk VPS:

  2. Select Service Plans on the left:

  3. Select the service plan we will be changing:

Information

In our example we are using the service plan “Unlimited” which contains a number of default values.

  1. Select Logs & Statistics

  2. We now set the Log rotation condition to By time to prevent excess log rotations.
  3. We also set the rotation frequency to Daily and the number of backups to keep (eg, 28):

  4. Ensure Compress log files is also enabled to help reduce the space taken by the logs.
  5. We now click Update & Sync to update logging settings for all subscriptions using the unmodified “Unlimited” service plan.

Note

Log rotations are completed as a daily Plesk task, generally run at early hours of the morning. After making a change, please wait 24 hours before checking for any space reduction or log rotations.
