Overview

The installation of the KernelCare rebootless kernel updates is very simple. No reboot is required after installation.

Note: While we've never had any issues installing KernelCare, as with any software upgrade it should be conducted in your scheduled maintenance time.

KernelCare is compatible with 64bit versions of RHEL/CentOS 5.x, 6.x , 7.x, CloudLinux 5.x, 6.x, Virtuozzo/PCS/OpenVZ 2.6.32, Debian 6.x, 7.x and Ubuntu 14.04 kernels.

Instructions

  1. Login to the server as the root user.
  2. If you're running a RedHat / CentOS based distribution (including OpenVZ / Virtuozzo / PCS), run the following: 
    rpm -i https://downloads.kernelcare.com/kernelcare-latest.x86_64.rpm
    
  3. If you're running a Debian based distribution (including Ubuntu), run the following:
    wget https://downloads.kernelcare.com/kernelcare-latest.deb
    dpkg -i kernelcare-latest.deb
    
  4. This will install KernelCare as well as setup the repository for further updates. 
  5. If you haven't previously licensed KernelCare, this will install a 30 day trial key for you.
  6. Check the status of the live patching by running:
    /usr/bin/kcarectl --info
