Overview
This article covers how to setup your Microsoft 365 email account in Microsoft’s “New” Outlook program, upon launching it for the first time.
Outlook (New) is not to be confused with the better known Outlook that has been in circulation since 1997, as it is a separate free program that is included with Windows 11. Outlook (New) may also be known as “Outlook for Windows”.
More details regarding Outlook (New) can be found here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/outlook/outlook-for-windows
License Requisites
Despite Windows Mail, Outlook (traditional) and other email apps allowing it, Microsoft appears to have introduced new licensing requirements for adding a Microsoft 365 email account into Outlook (New).
Business Basic, Exchange Online (Plan 1 & 2), and Office 365 E1 licenses can NOT be added to Outlook (New), as the account must include the Office 365 desktop software suite.
As such, your account must have a Business Standard, Business Premium, Office 365 E3 / E5 or other license that includes the Office 365 software suite.
