Overview

Occasionally for some sites, you may receive the error:

Failed to reset cache for the instance #<number>, reason: An error has occurred when decoding JSON: Decoding failed: Syntax error

This can occur when using the WP Toolkit, or you may receive this as an email as scheduled tasks fail.

Cause

In most instances, this is caused by a plugin or theme which has fatal errors. To fix, you will need to read the Plesk Website Error Logs to find the plugin or theme at fault. If you’re having issues with this, we highly recommend you reach out to your web developer for further assistance.

While the WP Toolkit isn’t the cause of the fault, errors within a plugin or theme may be affecting the website for normal users as well so it should be fixed as soon as possible.
