Overview

While Microsoft Windows 11 comes with Microsoft Teams preinstalled, this is the personal version and isn’t compatible with Teams when using it with your Microsoft 365 (Office 365) account. Unfortunately, Microsoft have made this very confusing by calling two apps with different features the same thing.

If you need to use Teams for work, you must install the correct version. You can tell it’s the correct version by the name, which must be Microsoft Teams (work or school):

If you only see Microsoft Teams (the first option above), you need to install the correct version. Microsoft have further guidance on the differences with Teams available as well.

This is for Microsoft Windows based environments only. If you need to download Teams for macOS, you can do so from the Teams Desktop App Download page.

Installation

  1. The easiest method for installation is via the Microsoft Store.
  2. You can find the Microsoft Store by clicking on Start then either selecting from the pinned items or searching for “Microsoft Store”:

  3. Search for “teams”. You should see the option to install Teams:

  4. Click install and it should install the correct version of teams for you.
  5. You can confirm it’s the correct version and up-to-date by reading our guide on How to check what version of Microsoft Teams you have.
  6. Alternatively, if you’re having issues with the Microsoft Store then you can download directly from the Teams Desktop App Download page, ensuring you select the version for work or school:
